The Sunshine Coast route is made up of coastal towns as well as inland areas with a rich history and diverse tourist offering. Boknes is another small holiday hamlet situated down the beach from Cannon Rocks and is a popular destination among anglers. From Boknes, you can hike to the famous Dias Cross, erected in 1488 and situated in the marine section of the Addo Elephant National Park. Further up the coast in a picture perfect coastal setting, Kenton-on-Sea and Bushmans River are situated between two great rivers and boast the Kariega Blue Flag Beach. Activities in the area include horse riding along the beautiful sandy beaches, hiking, surf and rock angling, mountain biking, game viewing as well as snorkelling in the beautiful sheltered bays created by the unusual rock formations in the area.
The oldest pub in the country is situated in Bathurst, a fascinating English style 1820 Settler Village showcasing an eclectic mix of old and new. A number of original buildings have been preserved such as the Pig and Whistle in the heart of the village, as well as the oldest pub. Offering great canoeing, birding and horse riding opportunities, the villages of Kleinemonde, Riet River and Rufanes are surrounded by an abundance of rivers and beaches.
